Editorial standards

Trust is a process.

Our standards describe how we choose stories, use sources, correct mistakes, and keep commercial influence out of editorial decisions.

FIELDWORK Editorial reference

Originality and public value

Fieldwork publishes original explanatory work. We do not republish articles from other publishers without commentary and added value. Our goal is to help readers understand a system, decision, or trade-off that matters in daily life.

Sourcing

We prefer primary and authoritative sources: public records, official guidance, research institutions, regulators, and directly observed evidence. Where a claim is contested, we aim to explain the disagreement and avoid presenting a single interpretation as settled fact.

Stories include a reference desk with further reading. A link does not imply that the source endorses the full article. We distinguish our analysis from the underlying evidence.

Authorship and accountability

Fieldwork uses an organisational byline for work produced by its editorial desk. The publication accepts responsibility for accuracy, context, and corrections. We do not invent biographical identities or claim reporting relationships that do not exist.

Corrections

Factual errors should be reported with the article URL, the relevant passage, and supporting information. We correct material errors promptly. When a change alters the meaning of a story, we add a note describing the correction.

Automation and research support

We may use software and automation for research, production, and quality checks. These tools do not remove editorial responsibility. Claims should be checked against named sources, and the publication remains accountable for what appears under its name.

Images

Article images are stored locally and selected to support the subject of each story. Images are credited where required or useful. We do not imply that a stock photograph documents a specific event or person unless the caption says so.
